Preconception

There's always a first time for everything. This truism is something I've been thinking about for a few days. Most times, the first time you do a thing is not noticeable, it's irrelevant. However, for the times you recognize something is, or will be your first, you likely think about it. This is how you develop a preconception.

The resulting preconception is something I find is rarely wrong, yet always different. That is to say, my expectations are often accurate in substance, but the way I experience them rarely feels how I imagined. Exciting maybe, but often stressful. Many of the moments I remember in life come out of these circumstances. Preconceptions create the environment for something to be remembered.

Correlation or causation? I don't know. Living a boring life, avoiding preconceptions seems a good path. While limiting in how I experience the world, that limit feels freeing. Not having to deal with unknown-unknowns. Choosing instead to embrace the absurd, the unknown itself, rather than question it. My preconception no longer has value.

Different experiences are often similar to ones that I've already felt, derivatives. If so, I question the idea that there is great value in chasing after experience after experience. Instead of being someone who only builds preconception, yet never does anything with them. Instead of being someone who builds experience after experience, I choose neither. Opting for the boring. Neither deprived, nor desensitized. Accepting this as something to strive for, rather than to be avoided.
